GREENEVA Participates in GREENOVA 2026: Strengthening Scientific Collaboration for Environmental Innovation and Low-Carbon Development

GREENEVA participated in The 1st Global Conference on Environmental, Energy, and Natural Resources Innovation for Sustainable Development (GREENOVA 2026), an international scientific conference that serves as a strategic platform for knowledge exchange, research dissemination, and innovation in the fields of environment, energy, and sustainable natural resource management.

The conference was organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), under the theme “Advancing Environmental, Energy, and Natural Resources Innovation for Sustainable Development.” The event aims to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing global challenges, particularly climate change, energy transition, and science-based sustainable development.

GREENOVA 2026 brought together participants from diverse backgrounds, including academics, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and industry representatives from both national and international levels. The conference was also supported by several partner institutions, including IPB University, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Prince of Songkla University, and Hokkaido University (Japan), further positioning GREENOVA as a regional and global scientific platform.

Several distinguished keynote speakers contributed to the conference, including Prof. Nathan G. Swenson (University of Notre Dame, USA), Assoc. Prof. Tatsuhiro Ezawa (Hokkaido University, Japan), Prof. Rajkishore Nayak (RMIT University, Vietnam), and Prof. Dr. Hadi Susilo Arifin (IPB University, Indonesia), who shared insights on ecological systems, environmental innovation, and sustainable resource management.

GREENEVA Participation and Scientific Contribution

During the conference, GREENEVA actively participated in scientific sessions and discussions, while also strengthening collaboration with various stakeholders in the environmental sector. GREENEVA is an environmental and sustainability consulting firm focusing on environmental studies, low-carbon development strategies, and the strengthening of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation through data-driven and science-based approaches.

As part of its scientific contribution, GREENEVA presented a study entitled “Spatial Analysis of GHG Emission Patterns and Low Carbon Development Governance Gaps in a Global South Province: Evidence from Central Java, Indonesia.” The study examines spatial patterns of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, evaluates the effectiveness of Low Carbon Development (LCD) implementation, and identifies governance gaps as well as challenges in the Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system at the sub-national level.

The findings indicate that GHG emissions in Central Java are still predominantly driven by the energy sector, accounting for approximately 80.5% of total emissions. Meanwhile, the implementation of low-carbon mitigation actions has only reached around 15.38 million tons of CO₂e, or approximately 16.5% of the 2025 target, highlighting a significant gap between policy targets and actual achievements.

In addition, the forestry and agriculture sectors were identified as key contributors to carbon sequestration potential, while the agricultural sector demonstrated the highest cost-effectiveness in emission reduction efforts. These findings emphasize the importance of sector-specific mitigation strategies in developing effective climate action planning.

The study also highlights that spatial variation across regions significantly influences emission patterns, indicating that mitigation strategies should not be uniformly applied but instead tailored to local characteristics (location-specific mitigation strategies). However, key challenges remain, including limited MRV capacity, inconsistencies in regional data systems, and low private sector engagement in supporting mitigation efforts.

The findings of GREENOVA 2026 are highly relevant in the context of accelerating global climate challenges, including rising greenhouse gas emissions, increasing urban development pressures, and the urgent need for a transition toward a low-carbon economy. In Indonesia, the key challenge lies not only in setting mitigation targets but also in ensuring effective implementation, data consistency, and cross-sectoral coordination at multiple governance levels.

GREENEVA’s participation in GREENOVA 2026 reflects its strong commitment to advancing environmental research, innovation, and scientific collaboration in the field of sustainability.

Through this engagement, GREENEVA reinforces its role in promoting science-based low-carbon development strategies, strengthening spatially driven environmental analysis, and enhancing collaboration between academia, government, and professional stakeholders. The synergy with Universitas Negeri Semarang, particularly the Department of Environmental Science, further supports the integration of academic knowledge and practical implementation to develop impactful environmental solutions.

Overall, GREENEVA’s involvement in GREENOVA 2026 is not only a platform for scientific dissemination but also a strategic step in strengthening its contribution to sustainable development and climate action initiatives in Indonesia.
